The overview

What it is, and why it matters.

Trees and shrubs need deep, infrequent watering, especially in the first two or three years after planting. Lawn sprays deliver shallow water that encourages shallow roots. A drip ring or a set of bubblers puts a slow, deep soak at the root zone and, for new trees, keeps the root ball moist as roots grow into the surrounding soil.

We size the ring to the plant and expand it as the plant grows. In Nashville, new trees planted in clay struggle in July heat when watered too little or too much, and a timer-controlled drip ring fixes both problems. We also tie tree rings into a controller zone so the schedule adapts with the weather.

Good questions

Tree & Shrub Drip Rings: common questions

How often should new trees be watered?

Commonly deeply a couple of times a week in the first season, then less often as roots establish, with more during hot, dry spells. A drip ring on a timer makes this easy.

Can existing trees get a drip ring?

Yes. We place emitters across the root zone, outside the trunk, and adjust over time.
