The overview

What it is, and why it matters.

Water left in pipes can freeze, expand and crack pipe, valves and backflow devices. We shut off and drain the supply, connect a compressor and blow out each zone in sequence at a safe pressure until only mist comes from the heads, then drain the backflow and set the controller to a rain or off mode.

In Middle Tennessee, hard freezes usually arrive from late October into November. The right timing is after the growing season and before a deep freeze. Short freezes are often survivable, but long ones are not, and repairs in spring cost far more than a blowout.

Why homeowners choose it

Good questions

Fall Winterization & Blowout: common questions

Do I need to winterize my sprinkler system in Tennessee?

Yes in most cases. Freezing temperatures can crack water-filled pipe, valves and backflow devices. A blowout in fall prevents most freeze damage.

Can I blow out my own system?

It is possible but risky: too much pressure can damage heads and valves. We use the right compressor and sequence.
